The easiest way to get to Troy is by a local bus from Turkish city Chanakkale. The bus brings tourists to the entrance to the archaeological zone located next to village Tevfikiye. The site looks completely different from what you saw in various books and movies. The land is very dry. The sea is five kilometers away from the hill. Heraclea Lyncestis is an ancient Greek city located on the outskirts of the Macedonian city of Bitola. Heraclea was named after the mythological hero Hercules. The city was founded by Philip of Macedon after joining the Lynkestis to his kingdom. Later, this city began to grow actively due to its location on the famous Via Egnatia connecting the Adriatic and the Bosphorus. The city was abandoned after the slavization of Macedonia in the 6th century AD. (more…)
Day 1 Go to Gyeongbokgung Palace to see the change of Royal Guard Ceremony. They do it twice a day. The first ritual starts at 10:00 AM and there is another one in the afternoon at 2:00 PM. They also have a free guided tour 3 times a day. I did the last one at 3:30 where it was less crowded.Bukchon Hanok village – there are a few cultural villages near the center but perhaps the Bukchon is the most popular one.Walk around Jongno-du neighborhood and Tapgol Park. Visit the popular Seoul version of SOHO shopping streets in Nagwon Dong. Try the street food here as well. (more…)
In July 2017 we went to the Balkans. A layover in Istanbul is always an excellent opportunity to spend a few days in the beautiful capital of Turkey.
